About us

An inland barging company you can trust

The specialised transport of liquid cargo via the inland waterways of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, using a modern fleet including 'dedicated' double hull tankers fully equipped in accordance with our customers' preferences. Stringent demands as regards quality and safety standards, a welltrained crew and an efficient office organisation guarantee transport services of the highest level.

More than half a century of specialist inland barging experience Zwaans van den Heuvel Tankvaart BV was established in 1958 when four family members decided to combine their individual inland barging activities. The result was an inland barging fleet which, at that time, was specialised in the transport of heavy fuel oil, bitumen and clean mineral product. In subsequent years, it would be expanded to include tankers for transporting bunker oil to sea-going vessels. In addition to these activities, the first inland navigation tanker was constructed in 1967 for the transport of liquid sulphur. In 1997, a partnership was started with the former Olie Transport Delta (OTD) BV, which changed its name to OTexDelta BV in 2002. After all other activities were accommodated at OTexDelta in 2008, Zwaans started specialising exclusively in the transport of liquid sulphur using a modern fleet of five ‘dedicated’ double hull inland barges.

ISO certified In our sector, it is absolutely vital to apply and observe quality and safety standards. Minimising risks is an area of particular focus. With this in mind, OTexDelta and Zwaans van den Heuvel Tankvaart BV have been jointly certified in accordance with the ISO 9001:2008 quality assurance system. The careful monitoring, inspection, quantification and improvement of our procedures and activities are a key aspect of our work. This applies both to the office organisation, on board our own vessels and on board our charter vessels/subcontractors. This work is performed by a special quality and safety officer employed by OTD/Zwaans.

Advanced IT and communication: 24/7 The crews on all our vessels maintain contact both by computer and by phone with our office 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This enables us to coordinate and exchange the most recent and/or urgent data. Our small and efficient organisation enables us to respond rapidly to changes, changing preferences and new instructions.
